Getting to Cambridge

London Stansted Airport

Stansted Airport is within easy reach of National and International destinations and well served by many airlines. The airport is located about 25 miles south of Cambridge but has a direct train link to the city centre, which takes around 30 minutes. Train tickets may be purchased via the Trainline.com website/app and cost around £14 for a single journey.

London St. Pancras International

Eurostar provides direct, high-speed rail service from major European cities like Paris and Brussels to London St Pancras International. A short walk across the road to London King’s Cross then provides a direct onward connection to Cambridge, with a non-stopping service taking around 50 minutes. Tickets can usually be purchased at the same time as booking a Eurostar service. Please leave at least 30 minutes between your Eurostar arrival time and departure of your onward train due to the time it can take to clear customs at St. Pancras.

Cambridge/Cambridge North Stations

Both of Cambridge’s main rail stations, Cambridge and Cambridge North, are located just outside the city centre. Cambridge station is situated just to the south of the main part of the city, and is a brisk 50 minute walk from the conference venue. However, the station has good bus & taxi services directly to the conference venue. A taxi from Cambridge station to West Hub will cost approximately £10-12 and will take approximately 7 minutes depending on traffic. The Universal bus is a frequent bus link from the station (Stop 8) to West Cambridge, with a journey from the station to the conference venue taking around 30 mins, or around 20 minutes to the suggested accommodation (see below).

NB: Students and staff from any other educational establishment are able to gain a reduction on bus tickets – show your ID card to the driver and ask for a purple ticket. Just £2 per single, or £3.30 for an all-day ticket. So don’t forget your student/staff pass!

In contrast, there are no direct links from Cambridge North to anywhere other than the city centre and there are not as many taxis available. Therefore, we suggest using the main Cambridge station to reach the conference.

Coach Travel

You can travel by coach to Cambridge with major operators like National Express and FlixBus, which serve the city’s main coach station, Cambridge Parkside. From here, you can take a bus to the venues or a lovely walk through the main city (with its wonderful sights) will take around 50 minutes again.

Driving/Parking Options

For those that wish to drive, Cambridge is well served via the M11 from the south, the A1 (via the A14) from the north and the A14 from the East/West. However, there is no parking available at our suggested accommodation venue (Selwyn College) or at the conference venue (West Hub). Your best option for parking is at the Madingley Road Park & Ride site, situated just 5-10 minute walk from the West Hub and also served by the Universal bus, which goes to Selwyn College and the city centre. Vehicles may be parked at the site for longer periods of time, with 20-48 hours costing £20.

Accommodation

We have arranged an option to book accommodation alongside your registration. An en-suite, single occupancy room at Selwyn College, with breakfast included, will cost you just £94/night. The Universal bus, described above, stops just outside the college and takes just 10 minutes to the conference venue. There is also a nice, half-hour walk along quiet roads and cycle routes between the two places.

Conference Dinner

We have arranged an optional conference dinner for all delegates to be hosted at St. John’s College, in their Wordsworth Room, on Monday evening. The delegate dinner (3-course) will cost £40 pp with an option to purchase extra drinks on the night.

Located in the older part of the Cambridge city centre, near famous sights such as King’s College, The Backs and the River Cam, the venue is about a half hour walk from the accommodation, or a short taxi ride.
